The project: Formula 1 in schools
Our Romanian partner INMAACRO was off to support an international student project called «Formula 1 in schools». The multidisciplinary technology competition encourages students between the ages of 11 and 19 to design and manufacture a miniature Formula 1 race car on the computer and then test it in a race.
The young technology enthusiasts @ford_celeritas from Romania had already worked on a model within this framework. In order to be as precise as possible in the processing of the model and to win the competition in Singapore, 3D data needed to be generated quickly. This helps to understand the dimensions of the miniature race car as well as to make accurate changes where needed.
ZEISS T-SCAN hawk 2 for science and education
The hand-held 3D scanning solution was the tool of choice. Especially, the speed of the scanner convinced everyone involved. The straightforward application ensures fast data collection that could provide accurate information about the white part. This information could be satisfactorily provided to the production department which checked for any issues. Also always in view: The weight of the model. Working to the exact gram was prescribed by the competition rules and could be maintained with the data of the ZEISS T-SCAN hawk 2.
For this project, we scanned a white part which can cause some problems. But with the new functions and templates of ZEISS T-SCAN hawk 2 everything worked fine.

Providing accurate data in the inspection software
After scanning the part, the student group needed a certified and highly precise software to evaluate the data. The solution of choice here was the full version of ZEISS INSPECT which contains all necessary features to analyze the parts quality and possible deviations from the draft.
