Optimizing quality control in the casting industry

Since 1981, Kalkancı has been one of Turkey’s largest casting and mold manufacturers. Up until recently, they used traditional methods for the quality assurance and reverse engineering of complex parts, such as engine mounts, brackets, transmission systems, and electromobility enclosures. These methods, however, were time-consuming and error-prone, leading to delays in production processes and issues with part quality.

In line with its continuous quality improvement and operational excellence goals, Kalkancı was seeking innovative solutions. As part of this pursuit, they got in touch with our Turkish Partner infoTRON and their application engineer Güney Kılıç. Together they figured out, that ZEISS ATOS Q was the best option for the quality control of casted parts and molds in their measuring room. With the 3D scanner they have already been achieving significant advancements in 3D measurement and the Statistical Process Control (SPC).

With ATOS Q, we perform part measurements quickly without the need for fixtures. [...] with its Blue Light Technology, scanning all surfaces takes just 2 minutes. We have accelerated our 3D measurement processes by up to 60%.

Thanks to the 3D scanner, Kalkancı has increased speed and efficiency in production processes. High-precision measurements and automatic data analysis have reduced error rates in production processes and significantly improved product quality. Automated processes have eliminated time loss from manual operations, resulting in cost savings and shorter delivery times.

ZEISS INSPECT supporting the quality assurance of casted parts

Manufacturing numerous casted parts, the Statistical Procecces Control (SPC) is crucial for the company. The SPC feature, integrated in the ZEISS INSPECT software, helps to monitor part behavior during each production stage. This ensures that the productions are delivered without errors and supports to detect any issues early, if they arise. For Mücahit ŞAHİN this is one of many reason to choose the ZEISS software solution for the complex part evaluation:

With ZEISS INSPECT software, we can quickly observe errors on parts by comparing scanning data with CAD without using third-party software.
